Yet another member of the Sapodilla Family is the Canistel, Pouteria campechiana, shown below:
Canistel is native to the Yucatan and parts of Central America, but the wild plants tend to produce much smaller fruits. The excellent taste is the same, though. The fruits contain two or three large, shining seeds embedded in soft, orange flesh textured and tasting like a well baked sweet potato.
